When it comes to embroidery, really anything goes. That’s one of the reasons I love it so much, the possibilities are endless! The creative freedom is completely up to the embroiderer. You can chose any topic you want to add to your piece. Daisies, Mushrooms, Moons, you name it!

But one of my all time favorite things to embroider is fruit.

Today we’re gonna focus on Pineapples!

Pineapple Embroidery is a fun thing that you can add to really any fabric. You can make a Pineapple hat, sweatshirt, T-shirt, Jean pocket, wall decorating…anything really! So if you’re someone like me who loves pineapple, why not rep it this way?

Some of my best childhood memories happened during the summertime, and the vast majority of those memories include sharing a juicy pineapple with my family during hot days. So now, this fruit brings me so much joy! So when I thought of adding that joy to someone else I love(embroidery), I was so excited!

Before I start a project, I like to learn a little bit about the subject that I’ll be embroidering. So let’s get to know the pineapple a little better!

  • The Pineapple originated in Brazil
  • The name “Pineapple” was given to it by the Spanish because of how it looked, like a pinecone!
  • The scientific name for pineapple is ‘Ananas comosus.’….interesting.
  • The pineapple is a member of the Bromeliad Family.
  • A pineapple plant can grow up to 3 to over 5 feet high. Ha! I’m taller.
  • Pineapples are in season between March & July.

Now that you’ve learned a little bit about the pineapple’s physical facts, lets learn some metaphorical ones! Did you know that the pineapple fruit that you eat actually has it’s own symbolisms and meanings?

Pineapple Symbolisms & Meanings

The pineapple Fruit symbolize hospitality & friendship. In fact, back in the day people would actually hang pineapples near the entrances of their homes for guests to be able to smell as they enter. How sweet is that? Literally.

So while you’re creating your pineapple embroidery, consider the symbolisms of the pineapple; what does friendship mean to you? In what ways can you be more hospitable in your life? If you think about this while you’re crafting, by the time you’ve finished you won’t just have an awesome new pineapple decoration, but a source of inspiration as well!
