Inside: Fun pumpkin embroidery patterns and ideas for your fall decor and wardrobe.
Pumpkins are probably the most common image used to decorate our homes, our front yards, and our graphic tees and hats when it starts turning from summer into fall. They mesh perfectly into every season: Halloween with our Jack-O-Lanterns and Thanksgiving with the pumpkin pie traditions that we couldn’t escape even if we wanted to. Which we don’t. That’s for sure.
So pumpkins carry us from holiday to holiday during the fall! Not to mention visiting a pumpkin patch in this season with our friends and family is also a super cute tradition and photo opportunity. They’re all around us from September to November! Maybe September is a little early, but don’t forget that Starbucks always releases the iconic Pumpkin Spice Latte on September 1…
So it’s definitely not too early to break out the embroidered pumpkin beanie.
Personalize your fall wardrobe or create some fun new home decor for this year. You’ll love the fun ideas you can find! I pulled together my favorite ones just for you, and I know you’ll love them too.
Why Are Pumpkins So Popular Every Fall?
Thinking practically, pumpkins are locally grown in the USA, so it’s only right that we celebrate an American holiday such as Thanksgiving with our own crops! While not everything we do, use, or utilize is local, it’s always nice when we can use something right from our own soil! Again, especially on a holiday meant to memorialize the new life we found here in the US.
Being one of the main crops to grow a bountiful harvest on American soil, it’s not only important to the colonizers but to the Native Americans as well. It is a symbol of the harvest and of growth.
Fall is the season of pumpkin harvests, hence the pumpkin patch tradition in the fall specifically. Historically, it has served as a reminder of the hope of harvest, especially once folks started to move to more urban locations. So a pumpkin would appear in the home in the fall as a reminder, and it became a staple of the season.
We sure do love the pops of orange every year!
Why Do We Carve Jack-O-Lanterns?
Have you ever stopped to wonder why we have some traditions we practice annually? I wonder why I see so many pumpkins around, and when I make the connection that we celebrate with both Jack-O-Lanterns AND pumpkin pie, it doesn’t seem to satisfy the curiosity– Why do we carve Jack-O-Lanterns?
According to National Geographic, the story of the Jack-O-Lantern was brought to America by our Irish settlers. Essentially, it originates from a lore about morality: the story of a man named “Stingy Jack” who was not allowed to enter either heaven or hell once he passed. So the Jack-O-Lantern is used by families to scare away his spirit as it wanders the earth.
In Ireland this practice was used on different vegetables such as potatoes, but as they migrated over to America the tradition changed to use more of the local crops like pumpkins!
Why You Should Make These Pumpkin Embroideries
I don’t think I need to give you too many reasons why you should make these embroidered pumpkins… And if you’re already here, you were probably already looking for it.
But these are adorable for starters, and they can be a part of your decor all season long.
Embroidery makes great gifts too– to your parents, grandparents, friends, and your (future) children who will love to have hand-me-down handmades to decorate for the cozy season. Embroidery feels like a very homey addition to your ceramic pumpkins from the Target fall collection and I think they’re the perfect piece regardless of whatever your home aesthetic is!
Adding it to your clothes makes them so much more fun and unique, and adds a little pizazz to your closet! That favorite denim jacket you only wear in the fall anyway– why not add something special? We all love detailed denim.

Here are some of my favorites, I love to use these to decorate, gift, and make some festive sweatshirts. For baseball caps and tee shirts too, because let’s be real. I live in Texas and it stays hot all the way through Halloween some years.
